How many times did you hear your parents tell you not to blow your own horn? I'm sure they went on to tell you that talking about yourself was considered bad form and socially unacceptable. Little did your parents know that in order to succeed in any venture, you would eventually have to talk about yourself.

Peggy Klaus, the author of "The Art Of Tooting Your Own Horn Without Blowing It" heard the same advice from her parents when she was a child. She quickly discovered however, that that advice didn't work as an adult. In order to sell herself and her ideas, she needed to find a way to toot her own horn ... without blowing it.

If you're having a problem talking about yourself, listen to my conversation with Peggy Klaus and learn how to promote yourself without turning people off.

Peggy Klaus

Bob, thanks for recommending this interview. It does dovetail beautifully with the conversation we were having about Raleigh Pinskey's Conquering the Fear of Promotion. And I agree that the percetage of people who have had the "don't brag on yourself, it's disguesting" drummed into them is in the high 90% percentile. I highly recommend the "power of the group" to help overcome this mindset. When people in your network speak highly of you it helps you validate the value you contribute AND it's so much easier for me to say "Bob says he enjoys reading my comments because they are inspring" than to say "I think I am inspiring." (And thank you for those kind words - they may inspire me to toot my own horn. LOL)
