There are some very good reasons you want to be at the top of the Google search results page for your keyword or keyword phrase. The most obvious of course is traffic. According to the people at Market Samurai, the website in the first organic position gets 41% of all the clicks. That is huge.

But I want to give you another, maybe less obvious reason why you want to be in the first position. It has to do with you/your company/your product being perceived as the recognized expert in your field. According to recent research, 75% of searchers believe that the person or company in the first organic position in the search engine results page is the top in their industry at what they do. That's even huger! ... even though huger is not a word.

How hard would you fight to take the top position, if for no other reason, it predisposed your prospects to see you as THE recognized expert in your field? I dare say you would fight tooth and nail to take that position, and it would be a battle worth fighting.

Here's a good example. You can see from the clip below that there are over 25,000,000 web pages competing for the term "Blogger Training"

MagicWithBlogs.Blogspot.com is in the top position. There must be a reason Google has place this site above their own Blogger training program. And that reason, we assume, is that if Google thinks this is the best training program on the Internet, it must be the best training program.

True or false, it doesn't matter. What does matters is that 75% of the people looking for Blogger training believe that it's true. Three out of every four people who look for Blogger training are predisposed to believe that Magic With Blogs is the top of the line Blogger training program.

This is one of the ways to use Google to position yourself or your product or service as the recognized expert in your field.
