Default 2009 Goals

Have you prepared for the new year? Are your plans in place? Do you know what you want to accomplish in 2009? Today is the day to set aside the time to write down your goals.

Every year since 1981, on the last day of the year, I've dedicated three uninterrupted hours from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. to enumerate what I accomplished over the past year and to set my goals for the upcoming year.

When I lived in Georgia, I packed my notebook and pencil and sketched out my goals with a hot cup of highly caffeinated coffee at the Burger King in Woodstock, GA. Over the last 12 years I've completed this exercise while sitting in the lobby of the Kea Lani Hotel on Maui overlooking the Pacific Ocean. (This was a goal I set for myself in 1994.) By the time you read this post, my goals will be set for 2009 ... will yours?

This year I plan to apply all the techniques Josh and I teach at Recognized Expert to become the recognized authority in my new field of interest. And what is that new field of interest you ask? It's "Likability!" I want to own the word, "Likability." I want to have people affiliate Bob Sommers with "Likability." I want to show up at the top of the search engines for the word "Likability." I'm completely fascinated with what makes people likable and the positive impact it has on their life. I want to share that knowledge with the world and here is how I plan to do it.

Over the course of the next 12 months, look for Josh and I to create an entire industry based on teaching likability skills to business people, sales people, marketing people, parents, children and teachers. Look for us to create products and services on Likability to include:
  • Likability Keynote Speech
  • Likability Audio CD
  • Likability Video DVD
  • Likability Workshop
  • Likability Website
  • Likability Blog
  • Likability Podcast
  • Likability Videocast
  • Likability Internet Course
  • Likability Articles
  • Likability Radio and TV Appearances
  • Likability Book
  • Likability Research Tools
  • and much more.
I'm telling you this for two reasons. First, we're much more likely to accomplish our goals if we share them publicly. And second, I want to use my experience to show you how the process of becoming the recognized expert in your field works. You can watch my every move and learn from my successes and failures.

What are you going to accomplish in 2009? What is your biggest business goal? What word or phrase are you going to own? What area of expertise are you going to be known for?

If you've not written down your 2009 goals yet, take the time to do it now. If you fail to plan, you're planning to fail ... as the saying goes.

Bob,

That is absolutely awesome and a perfect topic for you and Josh as I really believe that is right in line with your aura.

Best of luck and get ready to TEAR UP 2009!

Thanks Jim:
You're going to love Blogger. It's a great tool for many different reasons. It's easy to use and very powerful.
When you get a chance, take a look at another use we found for Blogger for real estate professionals. Go to http://www.MauiMeadows.info
It's an example of a community site that you can build using Blogger. Imagine building a site like this for a community that you're trying to farm where all the neighbors look forward to seeing what's going on in their neighborhood? Once you create the site, the goal is to get all of the neighbors to sign-up on your email list so that you can send them an update every week or so. I created this site last year as an example of what could be done with Blogger for real estate agents.
Happy New Year Jim and thanks for your nice comment on our Blogger videos.
