Default Using Wordpress as Website, any feedback on Fantastico's Carts to Set up/Sell Ebook?

Hi!

Ok, ebook is ready. Now I have to get it up on site!

I'm wondering if anyone that is using Wordpress as their main site (not just as blog) has set up a shopping cart using one of Fantasticos offerings - Cube Cart or Zen look good but a programmer I spoke with said it's not very secure.

If so, did you add SSL and IP for security?

If not, what did you use and what is the cost?

Finally, how long will it take to set up? Not sure I'm comfortable doing it on my own.

Thanks so much!
Kass

Hi Kass!

If you have only a handful of products (eg < 25) I would use the PayPal basic shopping cart system to sell your product. It will integrate flawlessly with WordPress through the use of unique URLs (all explained on the PayPal site.)

With PayPal you don't have to worry about SSL certs or anything along those lines as everything takes place on PayPal's site directly. This means no CC info is actually typed into a link on your website.

I would avoid self hosted shopping cart software and SSL certs until you absolutely need them. Failing to update and secure shopping cart software can be devastating if you hold CC and client info.

Hi Techie!

Outstanding. Thank you so much. So it appears I don't have to use Zen or CubeCart - interesting. I thought that those were the base programs and PayPal was integrated into them.

If I'm able to use just PayPal, that makes it much easier and seems like I could have it set up within about 10 minutes - with custom buttons, images of products, and additional copy to boot.

Hope you like the book!

Salud,
Kass

I would start with the built in PayPal shopping cart and upgrade when necessary. The WordPress side of the changes will be simple when the time comes to upgrade.

When it becomes an issue, here are a few advanced tools for handling Digital Goods (including Zen and CubeCart.)

We have been using aMember for our own projects (mainly for the recurring subscription features.)

Hi Josh,

Thanks again! You are a wealth of information. I will start with PayPal and work my way up from there. I'll keep you posted!
