I am looking for a email verifier tool to verify my list before launching my campaigns. Any recommendations for some good free/inexpensive tools?

Your email system should have been keeping this up to date for you. Awebber, ConstantContact, iContact, Interspire Email Marketer all process bounced emails off your list properly.

If the list was purchased, or haven't received email in more than 12 months (2 years for some services) all sent messages will be considered spam.

I was looking for an email verifier that would ping the SMTP server and cull out the bounced ids before I load them into my mail blaster.

The email address verification process is not very accurate. And it will most likely cause your IP adderss to be blacklisted. Better to remove the bounces after sending out each mailing.
