How to use Twitter to do SEO?
I am new to Twitter and wonder how everybody uses Twitter to help increase the traffic of their own website? Does Twitter help in any case in SEO?

Twitter is a social networking tool. Build enough buzz and you will start seeing traffic.
"Will twitter help me rank better in Google?" Short Answer: No. Long Answer: Yes, lets say you have 10,000 people talking about your website using twitter, it's only a matter of time before one of them link to your website through their blog. Links are a core component to your rank within the SERPs. So I guess you can say that indirectly, twitter will in fact help you with your website optimization.

Twitter is good for direct traffic and to get pages indexed fast..but I think it's pretty worthless when it comes to SEO and link building

If you add your website url to your twitter profile it is a nofollow backlink. But when you twitter profile gets picked up by twitter search engine like tweetme, your url from your profile appears on these sites as a dollow backlink.
