I'm still not sure if I'm a fan of being listed in thousands of directories (other than the hand full that are relevant to what my site is about), but I did run down an interesting link to help you find the newest ones.

You can usually find 10-20 new non-reciprocal link directories over on Digital Point: (Solicitations & Announcements Forum)

Usually a bunch of "grand opening" type posts.

I would still get into the Yahoo Directory if you have the $$ to do so, as well as the Open Directory if you have the patience.

The web directories that I submited to are not Yahoo or Google directories, but those small, not that famous ones which exist thousands online.

SEO experts absorb a lot of of their time optimizing for Google and occasionally one or two added seek engines. There are hundreds and bags of seek directories but assuredly the a lot of accepted one is DMOZ.

Free directories are just that, you can get listed in them for free. The one question I always get is this. Is it worth it to submit to the free directories? I would say yes with some qualifications.
Make sure that the free directory you are submitting to actually reviews the site submissions. You do not want your site listed next to a bunch of spam sites or worse yet, a site that may not be family friendly.
Watch for free directories that are filled with adsense. Some directory owners will set up free directories just to get the traffic to their site so they can make money off pay per click and banner ads. Don't fall for this game. If your site is of quality, you don't want it listed next to adsense ads you have no control over.
