![]() After giving over a thousand speeches, I've learned a thing or two about getting the audience involved in my presentation. And by involved I mean laughter and participation. Along with loading your program with humor, (which I strongly recommend) meeting room management is the next most important way to insure a successful meeting. Please take the next eight minutes and learn one of the most valuable lessons you will ever learn when it comes to creating a successful presentation. |

Another great way to get people to sit up front if you have a room with tables and chairs ... which are harder to move, is to set-up place cards on the back tables that read "RESERVED" or "RESERVED FOR GIRL SCOUTS" or "RESERVED FOR FILL IN THE BLANK." This technique does not always work, but it is much better than doing nothing.

Amazing -- less than two hours before listening to this tip, I gave a short talk.
Before an audience of about 30 people in a room that seated several hundred. People were spread out. None were in the front rows. There was not a great audience reaction to my presentation. Nor laughter. Or audience participation, at least not much. I thought the less-than-stellar reaction was because I stunk up the room. Then I heard this tip. It is so on the money. I actually had a number of people sincerely compliment me on my talk afterwards. I realize I didn't do that bad -- I had so many things going against me, all of which you named. Thanks for the tips and thanks for saving my self-confidence in my public speaking. |

Thank you Bob! Oh yes, my meeting event planners are always so concerned about not having enough seats for everyone. lol I need to have them listen to this so they can see it's not the end of the world to have a seat for each and every person. Excellent points you make.
