Thanks for posting this. Fascinating!
This is going to sound like I'm having a go at Toastmasters, but honestly I'm not - just wanting to chat things over..... I'm known for being a little scepticle about TM for a number of reasons. For example, I've been to TM meetings where the advice given was (from a professional point of view) simply wrong (and once even dangerous!).... that's not to say there's not great stuff out of TM too, of course! ![]() My main "critisim" of TM however, is that it's greatest strength (peer *review*) is also its greates weakness (*peer* review) and so it often leads to mediocre/safe presentations. (But that's good, 'cos it's so much better than it could be! )The point made in the video seems to support that in some ways - to get to the top you need a trainer/coach. Doesn't that undermine the whole way TM works? Okay, I'm overstating my case, I know, for the sake of a discussion, but what do you think? S

I was chatting with his guy who is involved in TM the other day. He was commenting that some TMs have higher quality and more experienced speakers. Thus, you get better advices from those TMs.
You are definitely right that you need a good trainer or mentor who is able to give you good advice for you to excel. Darren LaCroix got that right as well. Learn from the expert!

I agree that to succeed you need a mentor or someone to look up to, like most things in life. I believe Hamish McRae would be a good business mentor
