Re: Top 5 Mistakes Speakers Make While On Stage
Hey Everybody,
Has anybody ever been to a Bob Proctor event? I think he is really entertaining on stage.
He has a funny little bit he sometimes does and I think it can work really well if it is done correctly.
Basically the first thing he says when he gets on stage is to ask the audience a simple yes no answer and asks them for a show of hands. Something like "Who here runs their own business?" Now because this is traight off the bat everybody is a little sheepish and shy so he gets a little stick and says "Come on, it looks like half of you are asleep... Lets see who here can raise their arm above their head" Everybody laughs and raises their arm. He then says "Who here can raise both of their arms".. Everybody groans but they do it. He then quickly adds "Quick somebody grab their wallets".. Now everybody laughs and relaxes back into their seat..
I've watched him do this a ew times now and it works each time. Basically he is using it as an ice breaker, it adds a little humour, but most importantly he is using social proof to get everybody in the audience doing what he wants them to. Not to get into to much pshycology but he is actually programming the audience subconsciously to follow his instructions and as a by product it seems to stop all forms of heckling!!
Give it a try, it works really well
