Pecha Kucha
Are you familiar with the term? It's a new form of presentation style that will take a bit out of boredom. A Pecha Kucha presentation is 6 minutes and 40 seconds long and the speaker is allowed to use a total of 20 slides for 20 seconds each. It's catching on quickly and there are Pecha Kucha groups all over the world. If all goes well I will be giving a Pecha Kucha talk on Likeability on April 28th here on Maui. Here's a brief video describing how it works. Bob Sommers - The Likeability Guy

Hi Bob - I've been aware of the format for a while now but TBH I struggle to see the point beyond the 'fun' & 'gimmick'. (Maybe it has some additional utility as an exercise, I don't know). It certainly lends itself to YouTube that's pretty much it's only advantage as far as I'm concerned. Unless you're unrealistically lucky, the format won't suit your style.
Quite apart from anything else, the voice-over for the slide-set you show is pretty darn boring; I'd only give it 3/5 if I was generous. It seemed to me that one of the problems was that to fit the 20 second rule there were a few occations where things ground to a halt as the speaker had to 'fill' before the next slide. Add to that the fact the concept only needed a two minute presentation and it kinda proves my point.... ![]() Am I being too harsh? S

I think you make a very good point. I was not a fan of the presentation above either. What I like about the Pecha Kucha technique is that it keeps people who would generally ramble ... get to the point.
I'm also not a fan of slides for the sake of using slides. But, for those presenters who refuse to give a presentation without slides, again, I think it makes them get to the point. All in all, I don't if this is a technique I will use in my presentations 20 slides for 20 seconds each, but I do think it serves a purpose for new presenters in that it will help them to move their presentation forward. Thanks for you comments on this topic.
