Thumbs up How To Speak in Public

I ran across this video that is more or less a newbies guide to public speaking.

Howcast studios is always creating great content, I'm glad they created some on Public Speaking.

Enjoy!

Nice find. Mind you, I found myself watching her big, dangly ear-rings (what did you THINK I was going to say!?) sometimes!

Default The Brady Bunch

You don't suppose that the 1974 episode mentioned at the end is where that stupid idea of imagining your audience in their underwear for your presentation originated do you?

I've been trying to find out where that nonsense came from for ages now! (Along with whoever first started to mis-represent Prof M's work and pretend only 7% of what you say etc..... )

Default three parts of a speech, to Josh

This is interesting, but it has a lot of details in it (even though some are jokes). I think the most important thing for a newbie to speaking to think about is to:
1. Hook their audience at the beginning of their speech - say something that gets people interested in the subject
2. Talk about the subject
3. Leave 'em wanting more - finish with a closing that "opens up" the speech and gives the audience some "next steps" to work on

If a newbie to speaking works on just those three things, then they will soon be a much better, much more interesting speaker.

Muchly,

Tim

I personally don't think techniques such as imagining your audience naked work.. it distracts from the main task of speaking and I don't see why them being naked would be any less nerve-racking than them wearing clothes!

The other steps were very useful though. Thanks for sharing!
