As Lilliy Walters says on her podcast with Bob "Nothing Does it like a book"
Somewhere on this site I heard Bob mention that you can turn your blog into a book and I would like more info on this. I have started a blog at www.beyondcanihelpyou.com and I want to eventually turn these blogs into a self published, 100 to 150 page book to help me market my speaking engagments. Here are a couple of questions. Would you take down the blogs that you put into the book? If you do that won't it make it look like you never write to the blog? Should I hold back some of my best material from the blog and save it for the book or speeches? I would love more info on this topic. Love your site Steve |

Hi Steve:
Great questions. I'm in the process of doing the same thing. Here are my thoughts on the subject. There may be some issues with publishers about sharing your material on the Internet that I'm not familiar with, so please check with them before taking my advice. To start, I find using a blog platform to write my book to be a simple and logical choice for getting my ideas together. I can write in small chunks and get feedback on my blog posts if I choose to make my posts public. At this point, I'm writing my book on a Wordpress blog and keeping my posts private. No reason really, I just haven't decided if I want to make them public yet or not. I'm asking myself the same question you're asking. If I make my blog posts public, I would not take them down. This would be a very bad move from a Search Engine Optimization perspective and I don't think it's necessary. I had an opportunity to talk to a fiction author a few years ago. He has his entire book available for free on the Internet in digital form. He told me that he sells more copies of his printed book now ... after giving people the opportunity to read it on the net ... than he did before. Interesting. I don't know if I would save my best material for my book and speeches or not. On one hand, I understand not wanting to share everything, on the other hand I do know the value of giving my reading audience by best stuff. It seems as though we have many of the same questions on this subject. Please let me know what you decide and keep me up-to-date on your progress. I will do the same.

I've written one 'real' book and one ebook on this area and I'm toying with the idea of putting into a book a series of newspaper tips (I've written on article a fortnight for the last four years almost). Seems like a great idea to put your blog together that way - but don't forget to edit to make them a bit integrated!

I think this is a great question and definitely a good one for us to share what we know. In my humble opinion, he answer to this question really depends to what you want to do and your ending goal.
A blog could help you to spread the words for your book. However, if you don't need to use a market your book at all, you might not need a blog. On the other hand, it is always great to get feedback from others and your blog could help you achieve this purpose. I think writing "part 1" or a high-level view of your book in a blog is a strategy. Like Brian Tracy or Robin Sharma, they are doing short videos to demonstrate their strength for doing motivational speeches in YouTube. But, what they wanted you to do is actually to buy their books, ebooks and attend their seminars. On the other hand, you could simply write everthing you want to write in your blog. When you want to publish a book or an e-book, simply expand on the stuff that are already written. This should work as well.

Hi Olema:
Great post. I agree with you that the video blogging is by far the best method of blogging to sell yourself as a speaker and seminar trainer. Thanks.
