Simple Study: Storefront Keywords
I'm going to make this short, but I want to make the point as to how important keyword research truly is. Here's a really simple keyword phrase that I believe will show you the importance of keyword research.
The Business:
"A storefront that sells Apple Computer products on Maui"
The Keywords:
Maui Apple Store vs. Apple Store Maui
The search ratio is 1:5. For every person who searches for "Maui Apple Store," there are five people who search for "Apple Store Maui."
If you decided to use the keyword phrase "Maui Apple Store" to optimized your website, you would have left 80 cents out of every dollar on the table.
It pays to do keyword research!

This is amazing!
My question is: how were you able to determine the search ratio?Posted 10-07-2008 at 03:20 PM by thefreightguy

I used Google Webmaster Tools + Google Analytics + Keyword Country to get that info. It is a rough estimate though.
My estimates are based on a sampling of about 100 recorded searches/clicks.
Keyword country helped confirm by looking at different locations. "Apple Store" + "Location" vs "Location" + "Apple Store"
Valuable lesson learned though, heh, I should never assume I'm thinking like my visitors. I'm actually the 1 in 5 that searches for the location before the keyword.
