This was particularly prevalent in one time or retail sales where the joke I used to hear was "We screwed the last customer we dealt with so we can pass the savings on to you!" In a world where the salesperson was promoting the sale only for the sake of the sale they tended to have a high regard for their own abilities but a low one of themselves.
Enlightened selling is a move up the road of consciousness. Its achieving a position of integrity with both yourself and your products that allows you to feel good about both yourself and what you are selling. Its about achieving a level of education that not only allows you to evaluate good products, but, more importantly to evaluate their fit with the people who trust you. Its knowing that there is a "right fit" somewhere and its your job to introduce both the seller and the buyer to explore that possibility. And then to help make sure the fit works.
Enlightened salespeople are those who take their position in the world not only sincerely but passionately. They work hard to be a re-source, that is, a source, for their customers to return to again and again.
In sanskrit, the most ancient language on the planet, the word karma simply means "your own doing". What goes around comes around. He who lives by the sword dies by the sword. And so it is with sales. Those who stay in their integrity with an authentic desire to help and educate with new opportunities, find their lives rewarded with the success that is all part of their own doing.

Great article Bruce. I like how you relate selling to karma. What goes around certainly does come around again and again and again.Posted 01-25-2008 at 10:02 PM by Bob Sommers
