Burn Your Business Cards

Think about it... how many times has someone called you as a result of receiving your business card? It's pretty rare. People will call for a service or product when the need arises and by the time the need arises, they've usually lost your card. So... the big trick is to say, "No, I am all out. Let me get your information and I'll reach out to you from time to time." Collecting cards is a lot savvier than giving them out. You can then build a database and go from there. On occasion shoot out an email to remind them you're alive and provide some information they can benefit from. With that said, happy hunting and build that list. BTW... this works for any business not just online. Use this approach as part of your strategic marketing plan.

    I couldn't disagree with you more on this one. As long as human beings are wired the way they are, they will want something they can touch or hold. A business card is an easy way to provide them with that. I get tons of business off my cards, but perhaps it's the way I give them out. I don't just paper the town, I do a lot of networking events and speak with the person to identify what they might want to talk about when we get together, I write that on the back of my card and then PRESENT them with the card as if it were the greatest gift I could offer them. It increases the value of that little piece of paper in their minds and increases my own reputation with the receiver as well.

    We are in an electronic/virtual age, true, but let's not be too ready to surrender that one on one contact too soon.
