A couple from Italy came to the store and ask my son for help finding the movie, "The Italian Job." Now it's important to note that Joel has exceptional customer service skills, just like his father
, but being new to the job he decided to ask his manager for assistance. His intent in doing so was to help his customer get what he wanted as quickly as possible. The couple told the manager what they were looking for and began asking additional questions about the movie. Within minutes, according to my son, the manager became sarcastic and uncaring. He was shocked and embarrassed at her behavior.
Unfortunately, even though Joel was exceptionally nice and helpful, the couple associated him with the manager and left the store angry and upset. What would you do in this situation?
- Follow your customer out onto the parking lot and apologize for your manager.
- Never ask your manager for help again?
- Keep your customers clear of your manger?
- Quit?

Bi-Polar Boss & What to Do?
I guess the only way to answer it is from my shoes. After all the world occurs to me differently than Josh. For me personally I'd think hmm why would I want to work for this guy when I've got mad skills programming a website like Recognized Expert? Then the other perspective could be more kind and considerate. Was the manager having a bad day? Is he going through some tough times personally?
I can't view your 4 options from here Bob but I'd say he sure could learn what not to do with this guy if it keeps up. If it gets to the point that the manager is making his life stressful then I'd move on and be happy for all I learned. Really...
