Multiple Business Personality Disorder

I do all of these thing, and it's a problem I need to change. When you try to be an expert on too many subjects, you become the master of none. Worse yet, your customers will not see you as the master either.
If you're like me, you have the opportunity to earn money in many different areas. The key to earning a lot of money is to do one thing better than anyone else and develop a reputation for being the recognized expert in that field. It's also a lot more fun.
I'm going to take this weekend and decide once and for all what I want to do for a living, and what I want to do as a hobby. Let me encourage you to do the same.

Bob, this is good public self-analysis. I have taken this statement to heart: "The key to earning a lot of money is to do one thing better than anyone else and develop a reputation for being the recognized expert in that field. It's also a lot more fun." I have transcribed onto a 3x5 index card and will sit in front of me as a constant reminder to stay focused on the one thing I want become known as the recognized expert.
So, thank you, for sharing your personal "navel gazing."Posted 04-27-2009 at 01:21 PM by thefreightguy

Bob - I know this post is starting to age- but what did you decide? MattPosted 06-03-2009 at 03:33 PM by mdrumm

Hi Matt:
I'm still doing all three, but for some reason I don't feel as pressured to give any of them up. What I have done differently is to spend my time in a more targeted direction with all three. For example.
June is email marketing month on Recognized Expert and on the IMA of Hawaii website. This gives me the opportunity to focus my attention on only one aspect of Internet marketing and how to position yourself as an expert in your field. I'm much more focused on doing this than trying to do everything for everyone.
June is also the month I'm going to create my video email marketing campaign for "The Likeability Guy" and promote it to potential customers. Notice how everything is focused around the topic of email marketing for the next 30 days.
Changing my thinking about this has been extremely helpful for me, and it's going to make me an expert on the subject come July 1. Thanks for asking.Posted 06-03-2009 at 03:52 PM by Bob Sommers
