Article Marketing - Testing Your Title

Article marketing is one of the very best ways to get traffic to your website. We generate thousands of visitors to Recognized Expert every month using article marketing, and you can too. But this was not always the case.

It can be a lot of hard work to write an article, especially if you are not a writer. So, you want to make sure that every article you write gets in front of as many potential paying customers as possible. Problem is, you can write the best article in the world, but if you don't test your title, your work could be for nothing.

Article Title Tip
Place your Keywords in the Beginning of your Article Title
The general consensus is that you want to place your keywords at the beginning of your article for two reasons.
  1. It helps the search engines quickly understand what your article is about (which makes it easier for them to place your article at the top of the search engine results page for your keywords.)
  2. It helps your readers quickly understand what your article is about (which makes it easier for them to click through and read your article.)
After doing a little research, I discovered that the search engines are now doing a very good job of correctly identifying what an article is about, even if your keywords are near the end of your article title.

People, on the other hand, are still more likely to read an article if the keywords they're looking for are at the front of the title. I know this from my own experience and from researching the article submission sites for the "most read articles."

If you want readers, keep your keywords at the front of your article title.

Test Your Title on Google
Let's test two article titles and see how they compare. In this example I'm going to be selling "rechargeable batteries" and I'm going to place that keyword phrase at the front of both titles. Here's how the test works.

Start by going to Google and typing your title into the search bar. You're going to be looking for three things.
  1. Look at the organic results and determine if the content is appropriate. Is it what you expect to see? If it's not, you're targeting the wrong audience. Change your title.
  2. See if anyone is paying to advertise for your title phrase. This is an indication that others are earning money with your keywords. The more advertisers, the better.
  3. Look at the number of competing pages that show up for your title. The more the better.
Here are the results of my first title test. The numbers will change over time, but the winner will not. Check it out for yourself.

Why You Should Use Rechargeable Batteries For Your Flashlight
121,000 results with no advertisers

Rechargeable Batteries - For Your Flashlight
685,000 results with 4 advertisers

As you can see, the second title is the clear winner ... but that does not mean this is the best title for my article. The purpose of testing is to identify the dogs and find the diamonds. Continue testing until you come up with the very best result.
