Why Be A Guest On A Podcast?
Podcasters Need You
I'm a marketing guy. I've spent my entire life in the field of marketing and sales and I could easily produce hundreds of marketing podcasts by myself ... but I don't. I invite an expert guest on virtually all of my shows for four reasons.
As the host of "The Recognized Expert Marketing Show," my first responsibility is to you, my listener. You expect that I will consistently produce an entertaining and educational "marketing" show. Not a show on car maintenance or a show on relationships, but a show on marketing.
Every podcaster understands that it only takes one bad or off-topic show to turn-off listeners forever. And because listeners are the bread and butter of every podcast, show hosts make their guest selection very carefully.
If I can invite a guest to my show who will enhance my listeners marketing knowledge, it's in my best interest to do so. And that's where podcasters like me need guests like you.
What you should expect from a high-end podcast?
No one works for free. And even though guests on podcasts are not paid with money, they are compensated for their time in free publicity. Here's how it works.
When you accept an invitation to be a guest on a show, the show host has a responsibility to make it worth your time and effort. As an example, let me tell you how we compensate our guests on the Recognized Expert Marketing Show.
1. We introduce our guests at the beginning, middle and end of each show and position them as the expert in their field. We would not do this if it were not true. We also mention their web address, book and product or service multiple times.
2. We give our guests the opportunity to demonstrate their expertise by asking questions they are very capable of answering. The guests who focus their message on solving problems with tips and resources get the best results.
3. We create a static web page on Recognized Expert for each guest with a very positive description of their show. That page includes their photo, the audio of their show and a link to their web site or to their product page.
4. We create a one-minute marketing tip video for some of our more popular guests with keyword rich text linking back to their show. The video goes out to over a dozen video sites and some of them have received thousands of views ... just on YouTube.
5. We send an email to our list of customers telling them about the show and encouraging them to listen.
6. We give each of our guests the opportunity to create their own blog on Recognized Expert where they can further demonstrate their expertise and promote their service to our listeners.
7. We provide our guests with a Recognized Expert badge that they can place on their website with a link to their show page.
8. We encourage our listeners to use the social networking buttons at the bottom of each show page to further promote the show.
9. If we've had an opportunity to read their book or use their product, we promote it from that perspective. This is a million times more effective.
10. We give each guest an opportunity to market their show on other Recognized Expert shows. This is known as a shout-out in radio world.
11. We place each show on the home page
of Recognized Expert with the guests photo and a brief description of the show. They will stay on the home page until it is replaced by the next show.
12. We give each guest the opportunity to ghost write a 750 word article about their subject matter and we submit it to Article Marketer. The guests who take advantage of this option see hundreds of keyword rich anchor text links back to their show page in less than 10 days.
13. We submit each show to multiple podcast feeds including iTunes and 30 other feeds. This multiplies their exposure by a factor of ten.
14. We make sure our guests are delighted with their show before we broadcast it to the world. This is not typical, so don't expect this from most podcasters.
When you commit to being a guest on a podcast, the host has the responsibility to reward you with publicity ... and successful show hosts do just that.

Part 3 - How To Prepare The Host For The Show
In my next lesson, I'll tell you how podcasters find guests for their shows and what you can do to be invited on a podcast.

Podcasters Need You
I'm a marketing guy. I've spent my entire life in the field of marketing and sales and I could easily produce hundreds of marketing podcasts by myself ... but I don't. I invite an expert guest on virtually all of my shows for four reasons.
- It's much easier for me to create a dynamic show when I'm involved in a entertaining dialog with someone interesting.
- Celebrity guests and topic experts give my podcast credibility beyond what I can offer alone.
- I enjoy meeting and talking to other marketing experts who have similar interests. It's a great way for me to build my sphere of influence and learn something new in my field of interest.
- I count on my guests to promote the Recognized Expert Marketing Show to their fans and customers. All things being equal, I will invite a guest with the greatest capacity to generate new listeners for my show.
As the host of "The Recognized Expert Marketing Show," my first responsibility is to you, my listener. You expect that I will consistently produce an entertaining and educational "marketing" show. Not a show on car maintenance or a show on relationships, but a show on marketing.
